Membership

Eligibility

Ordinary membership is open to registered and practising medical practitioners and dentists.

Associate membership is open to registered and practising healthcare professionals including:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner
  • Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner / Acupuncturist
  • Chiropractor
  • Dietician
  • Exercise Physiologist
  • Herbalist
  • Medical Radiation Practitioner
  • Midwife
  • Naturopath
  • Nurse
  • Nutritionist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Pharmacist
  • Physiotherapist
  • Podiatrist
  • Psychologist
  • Optometrist
  • Osteopath

Associate membership may also be available to other degree qualified healthcare professionals who hold an affiliation or membership of a professional association recognised by ACNEM

Associate membership may also be granted to other tertiary qualified professionals who work closely with the healthcare professions, assessed on a case-by-case basis, but these members may not appear on the Find a Practitioner listing.  These may include health promotion professionals, scientists, pathologists and researchers in a healthcare related field, and others who have distinguished themselves in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, science, research or academic endeavour.

Supporting documentation

Doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA), the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ) do not need to provide supporting documentation providing their current registration is able to be confirmed by a web search of the AHPRA, MCNZ or DCNZ website.

Other healthcare professionals must provide photocopies of qualifications and evidence of current full practising member status with a professional body recognised by ACNEM. 

Doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals registered and practising outside of Australia or New Zealand must provide photocopies of qualifications, evidence of current medical/dental registration to practice or current full practising member status with a professional body recognised by ACNEM as applicable, and certified translations, where required.  

Other considerations

Membership is provisional until approved by the Board and continuation is always at the absolute discretion of the Board.  Membership may be continued following retirement in good standing from practice.  By applying for or renewing your membership you agree to comply with the Rules of the Association as published and as amended from time to time.  Only Ordinary members are eligible to vote at general meetings and to be nominated for election to the ACNEM Board.

Financial Ordinary and Associate members of the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association (AIMA) Inc receive a 10% discount on Full or Associate ACNEM membership. Membership payments for the current year are not refundable, however payments for future years may be cancelled and refunded less a $110 administration fee.

Free Student Membership

ACNEM offers free membership to students studying towards a qualification, which on completion would provide eligibility to become an Ordinary or Associate member of ACNEM.

Evidence of university, course, and student status is required and your free student membership will be valid until graduation. If you already have a qualification that is eligible for Ordinary or Associate membership, student membership does not apply.
