Healthcare practitioners need to know the history, mechanism of action and medical benefits of fasting and intermittent fasting diets in order to provide patients with informed guidance.

The German ‘Buchinger Fast’ is a 4–21 day fasting regime that is safe and well tolerated. It improves emotional and physical well-being, cardiovascular and general risk factors. Research shows that the fasting-mimicking diet has the potential to extend longevity, lower visceral fat, reduce cancer incidence, and rejuvenate the immune system.
