The Dr Richard Sager Memorial Scholarship

The Dr Richard Sager Memorial Scholarship has been established in honour of the contribution Richard made to Integrative Medicine and Dietetics.

Richard originally trained as a chef before studying as a Dietitian. He completed a Master’s of Science Degree and then his Doctorate, where he researched indigenous children’s anthropometry measurements and cardiovascular risk. He was in the final stages of his studies to be a Fellow of acnem.

Dr Sager worked in private practice for almost 20 years, setting up Darwin Dietitians, the largest private Dietetic Practice in the Territory. He was a champion for greater choice and access to better quality food for people in the Northern Territory. Richard advocated for more gluten-free restaurants, for more nutritional food in hospitals and for the health of Indigenous Communities.

He dedicated his career to his patients’ health and welfare, pushing the bounds of “guidelines” when sufficient evidence proved safety and efficacy.

Richard was a man who dedicated his life to improving the health of his patients and community and being a voice for the marginalised. He was a valued member of the acnem board from 2020 until his death in 2022.

Dr Richard Sager was a man of both integrity and kindness. This scholarship is set up to honour the work and legacy of this great and gentle man.
