MEET THE PRESENTERS

Dr. Leila Masson

MD, MPH, FRACP, FACNEM, DTMH 
Dr. Leila Masson is a Sydney based specialist paediatrician and author of “Children’s Health A-Z” a parent’s guide to natural therapies for common childhood ailments. She specialises in nutritional and environmental medicine for children’s health issues, including allergies, asthma, behavior problems, autism spectrum disorders and ADHD. She sees patients at her clinic in Tamarama and mentors doctors in integrative paediatrics. She received her medical doctorate from the Free University of Berlin and did her paediatric specialist training at the University of California in San Francisco. She received her Master in Public Health from Harvard University and her Diploma in Tropical Medicine from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr Masson has worked in the US, Europe, New Zealand, and volunteered for 2 years setting up a rural clinic in Pakistan.

Dr. James Greenblatt

MD, BSc(Bio), Psychiatrist, CMO, CEO
A pioneer in the field of functional and integrative medicine, board-certified child and adult psychiatrist, James M. Greenblatt, MD, has treated patients since 1988. After receiving his medical degree and completing his psychiatry residency at George Washington University, Dr. Greenblatt completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medical School. He served as the Chief Medical Officer at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, MA for nearly 20 years and has been an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and Dartmouth College Geisel School of Medicine. He is the author of eight books, including the best-seller, Finally Focused: The Breakthrough Natural Treatment Plan for ADHD. His updated edition of Answers to Anorexia was released in October 2021 and his newest book, Functional & Integrative Medicine for Antidepressant Withdrawal is available now.  He is the founder of Psychiatry Redefined, an online learning platform dedicated to an evidence-based, personalised treatment model for mental illness.

Dr. Sanjeev Sharma

MBBS, MD, FRANZCP, FACNEM, FAChAM 
Dr. Sanjeev Sharma MBBS, MD(Psychiatry), Fellow Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist (FRANZCP), Fellow Australian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (FACNEM), Masters in Clinical Nutrition (SAHAMM, Malaysia) & Fellow of Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (FAChAM). He works as Consultant Psychiatrist in Perth, Australia with interest in treating substance use disorder. He has been in Perth since 2002 and now in Private practice in Abbotsford Private and Marian Centre. He completed his post-graduate training from Northern India and before moving to Australia, he worked in National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, (NIMHANS) Bangalore which is one of the premier Indian institute in the field of neurosciences. He has interest in incorporating nutritional strategies in management of Psychiatric disorders and completed Fellowship of Australian College of Nutrition and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM) in 2022. In addition, he has recently completed Fellowship of Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine.

Toni Chambers

BHSc(Nutr Med)
Toni is a practising paediatric nutritionist, journalist, and manager of the Bio Concepts Clinical Support team. As a mother of four, now teenagers, Toni is well versed in the challenges that adolescents and their parents face. She is passionate about children’s health and nutrition, and education as the key in the early years to halt the march of diet-related diseases. She is a regular in some of Brisbane’s primary schools as part of the health curriculum and conducts after-school cooking classes. Toni is currently completing a functional medicine qualification. We have all experienced the ire of a teenager who feels wronged – slamming doors, snide comments or blasting music. Or maybe the low moods – grunting replies and hours spent locked in their rooms. That anger and moodiness can often progress to depression, aggression and sometimes violence. Join paediatric nutritionist Toni Chambers as she explores the driving factors and the treatment strategies to help support this population group through one of their most challenging times.

Dr. Michelle Woolhouse

Dr. Michelle Woolhouse is a doctor, mind-body medicine expert, keynote speaker, Founding Medical Director of health tech start-up Vively, Fx Medicine ambassador and Podcast host and Author of The Wonder Within. She is an expert in mind-body medicine and how by embracing the whole you can change your life, health and relationships. She educates widely in the areas of whole person health including mental health issues, such as anxiety, stress and burn-out, psycho-neuro-immunology and women’s hormones. Dr Michelle has advanced post-graduate training in mind-body medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, nutritional and environmental medicine and holds fellowships with the Royal Australian College of GP’s (FRACGP), the Australasian society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM) and Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (FACNEM). She is in high demand and consults widely due to her unique way of bringing the science and the human together.

Dr. Nancy O’Hara

MD, MPH, FAAP 
Dr. Nancy O’Hara is a Board Certified Paediatrician. Prior to her medical career, Dr. O’Hara taught children with autism. She graduated with highest Honors from Bryn Mawr College and as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She earned a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. After residency, chief residency and general paediatric fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. O’ Hara entered general private practice in 1993, and in 1998 began her consultative, integrative practice solely for children with special needs. Since 1999 she has dedicated her functional medicine practice to the integrative and holistic care of children with chronic illness and neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, PANDAS/PANS, OCD, Lyme and ASD. She is also a leader in the training of clinicians, both in the United States and abroad. Dr. Paula Smith-Brown

PhD, BSc(Nutr Diet) 
Dr. Paula Smith-Brown is a PhD-qualified paediatric Accredited Practising Dietitian who holds an adjunct lecturer position at the Centre for Microbiome Research, Queensland University of Technology, in addition to her role as Healthcare Science Liaison at Co-Biome. Paula’s PhD was awarded by the University of Queensland in 2017 and explored the association between diet, body composition and the microbiome in early life. She has over 10 years of clinical dietetic experience with a specialist interest in complementary feeding and food allergies and intolerances. As both an experienced microbiome researcher and healthcare professional, Paula is uniquely placed to translate the latest science on the gut microbiome into practical clinical application. The human microbiome goes through a myriad of normal developmental changes from birth through to adolescence.  There is a complex interplay between microbiome, immune, metabolic, gut and brain development. It is now understood that even transitory shifts in the microbiome composition during critical stages of development can have long term impacts on health. 

Susan Hunter

Susan is a naturopath who is passionate about educating and empowering others to feel their best. Susan is a double-degree qualified clinician that enjoys treating digestive disorders, working with people experiencing neurodiversity and helping individuals future proof their health by exploring their genetics. Susan is a published academic writer and lecturer to integrative doctors and allied health professionals. She has helped thousands of people by bringing structure, science and support to her work with them to help them achieve transformative results. Her mission is simple. Help people be happier and healthier by using individualised, evidence based medicine. Susan is also the founder and director of Radius Health, a Wellness Medicine clinic located in inner Melbourne. It is a patient centred practice where the focus is to ensure every client is seen, heard and helped. The team at Radius Health are passionate about educating and empowering people to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

Jacinta Barbagallo

BHSc(Nutr Med)
Jacinta is the Founder & Nutritionist of Orenda Women’s Health, an online naturopathic clinic specialising in skin, gut, and reproductive conditions. She works extensively with patients battling with acne, rosacea, peri-oral dermatitis and other skin conditions in order to identify the systems of dysfunction driving their skin presentation. Functional pathology and general pathology form the basis of Jacinta’s approach to treating complex skin conditions, however the importance of understanding the complexities of skin anatomy and physiology is believed to be equally as important. As such, Jacinta and her team work collaboratively with integrated doctors, corneotherapists & dermal clinicians all over the world to optimise patient management and improve outcomes. Jacinta also hosts her own podcast “Periods, Poos & Pimples” where she interviews practitioners in the realm of women’s health to provide a platform for education for the public, health practitioners and skin therapists. Jacinta is passionate about educating practitioners on the importance of thorough case analysis alongside pathology interpretation, to guide the next steps for patients’ treatment alongside specific dietary management strategies to optimise patient adherence and outcomes. 

Dr. Elizabeth Steels

PhD, BA(Clin Biochem), BA(Nutr Diet) 
Dr. Elizabeth Steels is a biomedical scientist, biochemist, and nutritionist. Having completed her PhD 30 years ago focussed on cellular oxygenation and regeneration, her interests became firmly fixed on the value of polyphenols in health and disease. Her career has ranged from pharmaceutical to natural medicine manufacturing, product development, formulations, clinical trials, clinical practice and regulatory affairs. She is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Dept of Pharmacy, School of Medicine, University of Queensland and mentors a growing team of MPhil and PhD students. She is a principal for a CRO specialising in innovative and unique clinical design with a regulatory and commercial focus of natural medicine focussing on innovative claims and clinical trials of polyphenols, eco-cannabinoids and botanicals. She is also Head of Research & Development at Integria Healthcare. She is well-published and often speaks at academic and industry events.

Dr. Christabelle Yeoh

MBBS, MRCP(UK), MSC(Nutr), FACNEM 
Christabelle is the Medical Director and a Medical Practitioner at Next Practice GenBiome – Edgecliff. Her work with patients focuses around optimising gut health, microbiome, mitochondrial and brain performance. She applies the premise that dysfunctions can be corrected with established practices of nutritional and environmental medicine. She is passionate about sharing her in-depth knowledge on the interconnectedness of human metabolism, biology, and behaviour. Dr. Yeoh dedicates her practice to working with patients with complex chronic conditions, neuro-immune mediated, or chronic inflammatory illness. Christabelle graduated from medicine at the University of London in 1999 and obtained her membership with the Royal College of Physicians (UK). She has a Masters degree in Nutrition from King’s College London. After practicing hospital medicine, she has been working as a general physician with an interest in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine. She was a director (2014-2021) and president (2016- 2018) at ACNEM and is active on the teaching faculty.

Dr. Bruce Jones

MBBS, DRCOG, DipHort, AdvDipNutr 
Dr. Bruce E. Jones is a Clinical Nutritionist in Private Practice in Mount Martha, Victoria, specialising in individualised Nutritional and Integrative Medicine, working extensively in the field of Clinical Metal Toxicology, especially as it relates to patients with ADHD, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and autoimmune diseases. He holds the degrees of MBBS (1980; University of Melbourne, Australia) as well as a Diploma of Obstetrics RACOG (1982), Diploma of Horticulture (2000) and an Advanced Diploma in Nutritional Medicine (2013). He regularly teaches GPs, Allied and Natural Health Practitioners in Postgraduate Clinical Education. His key interests are in the twin sciences of Systems Biology and Translational Medicine, bridging the gap between medical research and clinical practice. He served as Senior Lecturer in Integrative Medicine from 2010- 2012 at the National Institute for Integrative Medicine (NIIM), Hawthorn, Victoria, where he was engaged both in teaching and postgraduate clinical medical curriculum development. Whilst working at the Institute, he developed a Heavy Metal Evaluation Program and was involved in collating data relating to the use of intravenous DMPS Challenge Testing conducted at the Institute. He is a member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS). He previously worked for many years as a GP in Family Medical Practice specialising in chronic pain management and counselling. Bruce’s enduring hobby is Ornamental Horticulture, linking the growing and understanding of medicinal plants to his professional medical interests.

Sonya Reynolds

BA, DipNutr, Grad Cert Nutr
Sonya is a Nutritionist with over 18 years industry experience. Her journey as a practitioner was deeply influenced by her personal experience as a parent, navigating her daughter’s severe epilepsy. This challenging journey provided Sonya with invaluable insights and a unique perspective, fuelling her passion for helping others in similar situations. She specialises in complex paediatric cases and operates both online and in her clinic located in the inner west of Sydney.

Dr. Orit Holtzman

MBBS, PhD (Neuroscience) 
Dr. Orit Holtzman practices functional and cannabinoid medicine. She is the Co-founder and Director of Leura Wellness, and is the Co-Founder and President of the Australian and New Zealand College of Cannabinoid Practitioners (ANZCCP). Dr. Holtzman is one of Australia’s most experienced medicinal cannabis prescribers and educators. She holds a Bachelor of Science in biology and psychology from the University of Tel Aviv (Summa Cum Laude), a PhD in neuroscience from the University of NSW and an MBBS from the Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney. She has been passionate about integrative medicine since her parents used it successfully to treat her childhood asthma and she has always known she would like to practice medicine in this way. To that extent, she has undertaken the ADAPT training in functional and ancestral medicine at the Kresser Institute as well as additional training from ACNEM and AIMN. She is also a Recode 2.0 certified practitioner in preventing and reversing cognitive decline. She is a TGA approved medicinal cannabis authorised prescriber for multiple indications and products and has taken a special interest in treating children with cannabinoid based medicines. She lives in the beautiful Blue Mountains, NSW, with her husband and 3 children. 

Carol Ireland

CEO & Managing Director of Epilepsy Action Australia
Carol Ireland is CEO and Managing Director of Epilepsy Action Australia. She has an extensive background spanning more than 35 years in the not-for-profit human services sector, holding a variety of executive positions. Carol has been at the forefront of the medical cannabis movement in Australia. In her role at Epilepsy Action Australia, she has had significant contact with many individuals and families faced with managing very challenging forms of medication resistant epilepsy, with few or no options left in the conventional treatment bucket. Carol has heard and seen the changes in people’s lives, including reduction in the severity and frequency of seizures, resulting from use of medicinal cannabis. Carol currently sits on the Advisory Board of the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics at the University of Sydney. She was a founding Director of the former Medicinal Cannabis Council and now serves as consumer representative on the Board of Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia. She has previously served on the Australian Advisory Council on the Medicinal Use of Cannabis and the Steering Committee for the NSW Government’s Paediatric Epilepsy Trials (Medicinal Cannabis Research).

Dr. Elisa Rough

MBBS, FRACP
Dr. Elisa Rough is a Melbourne trained paediatrician having trained and worked at the Royal Children’s/Monash Children’s/Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in Perth, WA as well as in regional Victoria and Lyon, France. She has held teaching appointments with the University of Melbourne, Monash University and is currently teaching with the University of Oceania School of Medicine. After many years of hospital practice, she currently works full time in private practice and with student teaching. She has a strong interest in nutrition, health and well being based medicine as well as working closely with educational and other health professionals. In her spare time she plays Masters and weekend hockey, enjoys helping her four children with their various academic, sporting and creative endeavours and has trained as a children’s yoga and mindfulness teacher.
