Clinicians prescribe a variety of dietary interventions including the Mediterranean, low carbohydrate, paleo, keto, gluten-free, low FODMAP, plant-based and the controversial carnivore diet. Although, what impact are these diets having on the gut microbiome?

Diet is the single biggest driver of microbiome composition. Change is evident within 24 hours of dietary change and can take months to stabilise, making dietary interventions an important clinical consideration.

In this presentation, you will learn the impact of dietary patterns on the gut microbiome and how diet can be used to support clinical outcomes.

Topics covered include:
  • The impact of different diets on the gut microbiome and gastrointestinal health.
  • How dietary patterns may contribute to gastrointestinal symptoms and dysbiosis in patients.
  • Emerging and epidemiological evidence on the role of fibre and polyphenol intake for gut health.
  • Clinical considerations for prescribing personalised dietary interventions to shift the gut microbiome composition.
