MEET THE PRESENTERS

Dr. Amy Gajjar

BSC (HONS), MB BS (LONDON), FRACGP, FACNEM, FASLM
Dr. Amy Gajjar is an Integrative GP based in Surry Hills combining Functional Medicine, Coaching, Yoga and Ayurvedic lifestyle. She qualified at the Imperial College School of Medicine in London and after moving to Sydney, undertook training to obtain the Fellowship with ACNEM. She has also received her Fellowship in Lifestyle Medicine and is a Board-certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician. Her main interests are gut health, thyroid disease and autoimmunity. She is also a Registered Yoga teacher and currently teaches Kundalini Yoga in Bondi Junction. She has also studied ayurvedic lifestyle, coaching, NLP and meditation.Dr Amy is also a writer and enjoys presenting at community workshops and seminars. She is a Medical Advisor to “Dance Health Alliance”, a not-for-profit organization, that facilitates dance programs in the community and care homes, to improve quality of life and mind body balance for people with neurological conditions such as Dementia and MS.

Dr. Michelle Woolhouse

Dr. Michelle Woolhouse is a doctor, mind-body medicine expert, keynote speaker, Founding Medical Director of health tech start-up Vively, Fx Medicine ambassador and Podcast host and Author of The Wonder Within. She is an expert in mind-body medicine and how by embracing the whole you can change your life, health and relationships. She educates widely in the areas of whole person health including mental health issues, such as anxiety, stress and burn-out, psycho-neuro-immunology and women’s hormones. Dr Michelle has advanced post-graduate training in mind-body medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, nutritional and environmental medicine and holds fellowships with the Royal Australian College of GP’s (FRACGP), the Australasian society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM) and Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (FACNEM). She is in high demand and consults widely due to her unique way of bringing the science and the human together.

Rachel Arthur

Rachel Arthur is a respected and widely published naturopath and registered nutritionist with a particular passion for integrative diagnostics. With over 30 years’ experience in both the clinic and the classroom, she's considered a leading educator, delivering post-graduate training and mentoring to naturopaths, doctors and allied health care professionals alike. Both Rachel's conscientious research and her unique presentation style that overflows with both memorable metaphors & practical take-homes, sets her apart and has earned her international recognition as a leader in the integrative health community.

Natalie Douglas

BHSc, BNat(Hons)
Natalie K. Douglas is a qualified holistic dietician and nutritionist, speaker, and host of The Holistic Nutritionists podcast. Through her successful online programs, Thyroid Rescue and Gut Rescue, and in her fully-booked online clinical practice, Natalie helps women experiencing thyroid, gut and hormonal issues to reclaim their energy, transform their digestive health, and balance their hormones so they can live happy, healthy and empowered lives. Natalie has been a featured expert in Australian Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Fx Medicine, The House of Wellness, I Quit Sugar and across various online media. Her results-focused, holistic approach combines: the power of functional testing; real food; smart supplementation; movement; stress and sleep management; and emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Natalie has completed further study in naturopathy and functional medicine, and is also a certified yoga teacher and fitness instructor.

Dr. Kamal Karl

Dr. Karl is the Founding Director of Functional Medicine Doctors in Auckland, New Zealand. He specialises in treating chronic illness with an integrative and functional medical approach. He is Co-Chair of the New Zealand Society of Integrative Medicine and member of the International Editorial Panel of the journal Clinical Interventions in Aging. Dr. Karl has been practicing functional medicine for 20 years and is a regular speaker and educator at international conferences. Dr Karl was an ACNEM board member from 2014-2018 and ACNEM Vice President from 2018-2020.

Lisa Costa Bir

BAppSc(Nat), MWH
Lisa is a practicing naturopath specialising in women’s health & auto-immunity in South Sydney, Australia. She has a Masters of Womens Health (UNSW), as well as Graduate Diploma of Applied Science in Naturopathy & Bachelor of Applied Science in Naturopathy, both from the University of Western Sydney and is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Evidence Based Complementary Medicine (UTas). As well as maintaining her clinical practice, Lisa is an educator working as an academic lecturer & clinical supervisor at Torrens University. She has contributed as a peer reviewer to industry journals, as well as an author to industry textbooks.

Dr. Denise Furness

PhD, BSc(Hons), RNutr, CSO 
Dr. Denise Furness, PhD is a molecular geneticist and nutritionist. She is a pioneer in the field of nutrigenomics and personalised health with 20 years of experience in the area. Denise began her career as a research scientist focusing on nutrigenomics, epigenetics, and DNA damage to support fertility and pregnancy health. She has published her work in peer reviewed journals and won numerous awards for her research and conference presentations. During her post-doctoral fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology she worked alongside a team of medical specialists and researchers within a recurrent miscarriage clinic, which resulted in an 80% success rate of healthy pregnancy outcomes. In 2012 she founded Your Genes and Nutrition and began applying her knowledge in clinical practice. Denise has a special interest in fertility, thyroid and autoimmunity (after recovering from autoimmune thyroid disease herself), as well as healthy ageing.

Dr. Nicole Nelson

MBBS, BPHARM, FRACGP
Nicole is a medical doctor with a background in pharmacy and general practice. She has attended nutrient & herbal seminars for over 20 years and in 2011 began to formalise her education in nutritional and environmental medicine doing courses with ACNEM, Biobalance, AIMA and various online courses. She has completed a bachelor's degree in pharmacy at Sydney University majoring in toxicology and worked as a hospital pharmacist before studying medicine at the University of Queensland. Nicole and her family live on the Sunshine Coast. Nicole has a long-standing interest in diet, lifestyle and nutrients and how these three key components can prevent and treat so many common illnesses we face. As a medical doctor, she sees that most of her patients' illnesses including herself and her family, can be linked to diet, lifestyle choices and nutrient deficiencies. 

Dr. Paula Rodrigues

BBehSc, BSc(Hons), DPsych
Dr. Rodrigues is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology and Clinical Psychologist with a focus on the Applied Neurosciences, being the application of neuroscience to real world settings. Dr. Rodrigues has worked as a privately practicing psychologist for over twenty years on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Dr Rodrigues is the founder and developer of the Neuroactualise program, which is a three stage treatment approach (RESET-REWIRE-RETRAIN) incorporating clinical psychology and the applied neurosciences. In this approach Dr. Rodrigues utilises a combination of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) “Tapping” and LENS Neurofeedback, as well as Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE) and Cranio-Electro Stimulation (CES) in her comprehensive treatment approach. As well as maintaining a clinical practice alongside her husband Errol, Dr. Rodrigues also utilises this growing field of the Applied Neurosciences with her peak performance clientele including business leaders, professional athletes and those seeking ultimate brain balance and optimal human performance states to achieve excellence in their respective fields. Dr. Rodrigues has a Bachelor of Behavioural Science and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Applied Psychology, as well as a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Rodrigues is also currently completing a Masters of Neuroscience at the University of New England with her three key areas of research focussed on the effect of trauma on the brain, cognitive decline and neurodevelopmental conditions, primarily Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
